Jordan
In 1970, the PFLP/PLO (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) hijacked 5 jumbo jets, 3 of which land in the Jordan desert near Amman. These are later blown up. A number of passengers are held hostage, and later exchanged for PFLP/PLO prisoners. This episode was the prelude to the Jordanian Civil War, in which the PFLP tried, and failed, to overthrow King Hussein.
